Bahraini authorities are seeking to tame a roaring trade in wild animals, which are being smuggled in to meet fierce demand for exotic creatures in the tiny Gulf archipelago.
The problem reared its head last week when a stray wild cat caused panic by entering a company building in the capital Manama.

The bear cub could be heard but remained unseen among the barren trees and dried leaves blanketing the forest floor.
Myron Means, a bear biologist with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, loaded a tranquilizer dart into an air rifle and took aim at the mother, who only stared back as he pulled the trigger.

North Korea announced it has started reprocessing spent fuel rods from a pilot nuclear power plant, in protest at international condemnation of its controversial rocket launch this month.
“This will contribute to bolstering the nuclear deterrence for self-defence in every way to cope with the increasing military threats from the hostile forces,” it said.

Rain and a floodlight failure took the gloss off the second day of the Indian Premier Leagues double-header weekend at Newlands Sunday.
All the tickets for Sunday were sold out too but steady morning rain threatened to ruin the day.
A grey first day provided enough cricket and entertainment, including an expensive and spectacular opening ceremony, to satisfy a capacity crowd.

The worlds top polluters have found new momentum towards a landmark deal to fight global warming at Group of Eight-led talks, but serious “gaps” remain to be overcome, delegates said Friday.
“I do leave Syracuse very much concerned that there is no clear pathway to resolving the gaps that remain,” Steiner admitted, saying the main stumbling blocks were setting targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and financing for the greening of developing countries.

NASAs Mars Exploration Rover Spirit is back on track. The robotic rover drove on Thursday for the first time since April 8 after its recent bout of amnesia.
The drive took Spirit about 5.6 feet (1.7 meters) toward destinations about(about 500 feet (150 meters) away. The rover has already operated more than 20 times longer than its original prime mission on Mars.
