More wet weather was forecast for the West on Sunday, while light snow was expected to stick around in the Northeast and much of the nation’s midsection was predicted to be mild.

Showers were forecast, along with 1 to 2 inches of snow at higher elevations in the southern Rockies. The region also was expected to see strong winds, with gusts up to 20 mph, and cool conditions, as highs remain in the 40s and 50s.

Nearly 200K still without power after winter storm

Nearly 200,000 homes and businesses were still without power Sunday as restoration efforts continued days after a slow-moving storm battered the Northeast with heavy snow, rain and high winds.

At the peak of the storm, more than a million utility customers throughout the region had lost power.

More than 83,000 utility customers still lacked electricity late Sunday afternoon in New Hampshire, the hardest-hit state.

Thousands still lack power after Northeast storm

Frustration turned to resignation Saturday for hundreds of thousands of people in the Northeast struggling to survive another day waiting for utility crews to restore electricity after powerful storms socked the region with heavy snow, rain and hurricane-force winds.

One man was killed by a falling snow-laden tree branch in Central Park in New York City, and two people in Candia, N.

Heavy winter storms wreak havoc in Northeast

A strong winter storm slammed New York City and much of the Northeast on Friday, forcing businesses, schools and transportation systems to shut down.

“A lot of people are not coming to work; today is very slow,” said Jake Mir, 45, from Long Island, who was 45 minutes late setting up his coffee cart in Manhattans West Village.

Snow’s so dense, it might not measure up as much

The National Weather Service has reduced its snowfall projections a bit across the Northeast.

He says usually, there’s about 10 inches of snow for every inch of moisture. But with this snow, it will be more like 7 or 8 inches for every inch of moisture.

Forecasters say the snow that started Thursday morning will continue to fall into Friday.

Airlines cancel hundreds of flights as snow falls

Airline officials say hundreds of flights have been canceled as a snowstorm bears down on the Northeast.

But Steve Coleman says “hundreds of flights” have been canceled in anticipation of bad weather later on.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says there’s no accumulation as of early Thursday at the New York City area’s airports.

For some in Northeast, a snow day isn’t an option

Plenty of schools may be closed as the Northeast bunkers in for another big snowstorm. But a snow day isn’t an option for everyone.

In Philadelphia, 39-year-old Denise Woodard caught an early morning subway train as she headed to her nursing assistant job in Norristown. Her three kids were staying with her mother because Woodard figured she might be stranded at work.

The nation’s weather

Wet weather was expected to diminish over the Eastern U.S. on Tuesday as a low pressure system pushed offshore.

But the center of the low was forecast to linger over New England and pull additional moisture onshore, bringing another day of light snow and freezing rain to the Northeast. Accumulations of less than an inch were expected.
