Why two oclock? The thinking goes its late enough that most people would be at home, with few bars and restaurants being affected. In addition, it prevented the date from switching to yesterday; it would be confusing if, say, we changed the clocks at midnight back to 11 p.

An Israeli archaeologist said Monday that ancient fortifications recently excavated in Jerusalem date back 3,000 years to the time of King Solomon and support the biblical narrative about the era.
That’s a key point of dispute among scholars, because it would match the Bible’s account that the Hebrew kings David and Solomon ruled from Jerusalem around that time.

Scientists have made lots of projections over the past few years about how warming temperatures and a changing climate will affect the planet. Real-world measurements have confirmed at least some of them: sea level is clearly rising, for instance, and the ice that covers the Arctic Ocean is shrinking and thinning - in the latter case, faster than anyone had expected just a few years ago.

Two astronauts are spacewalking again outside the International Space Station.
When ammonia coolant is flowing through the hoses, Tranquility will be brought alive with power. Its systems cannot be turned on unless there is a way to get rid of the equipment-generated heat.
Robert Behnken and Nicholas Patrick floated out Saturday night on their second spacewalk in three days.

It doesn’t take much snow to shut down the Deep South.
As much as 7 inches fell in central South Carolina, one of the hardest-hit areas. The powder wasn’t expected linger, though, like it has in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. That region was hit with back-to-back blizzards in the past week that dumped 3 feet of snow.

Apples new iPad device is so sleek and seemingly simple to use that one could easily imagine using it for hours on end, but doing so might not be so great for your body, experts say.
These lightweight, mobile computers give users unfettered access to the Internet anytime and from anywhere, but many of them suffer from an inherent design flaw, namely the “co-location” of the keyboard and monitor, said Anthony Andre, founder of Interface Analysis Associates and a professor of Human Factors at San Jose State University.

NASA is predicting good weather for this weekend’s space shuttle launch.
NASA officials said Wednesday everything is going well and that the countdown will begin on time early Thursday. There’s a 70 percent chance of acceptable weather.
Endeavour is scheduled to blast off Sunday morning on the last major construction mission at the International Space Station.

Just thinking about the past or future could literally move you. This mental time travel was revealed in a new study in which participants swayed backward when thinking of the past and forward with future thoughts.
“This is the first demonstration that when we think about time we physically move though space, whether thats engaged though areas of the brain or manifested throughout the whole body is an open question,” said Lynden Miles of the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
